The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Pursue Justin Fields Trade from the Bears, but with a Caveat
Art Rooney II, the president of the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently expressed his growing impatience with the team’s lack of playoff success. In light of this, Rooney should urge the general manager and head coach to explore the possibility of acquiring Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields via trade. However, there’s a crucial condition attached to this pursuit.Speculation has already linked the Steelers to Fields, the former first-round draft pick who might soon be available for trade. Acquiring Fields would undoubtedly come with a price tag, likely involving draft picks. Yet, as history has shown, championships often require bold moves and calculated risks, making it imperative for the Steelers to at least consider this option.
Fields brings a unique skill set to the table, combining both passing and running abilities, which could seamlessly integrate into new Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s system. Despite facing challenges in Chicago, Fields has demonstrated significant potential. In 2022, he amassed the second-highest rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season (1,143). Subsequently, in 2023, Fields achieved career highs in completion percentage (61.4) and passing yards (2,562), while also minimizing interceptions to a career low (nine).
While Fields may not have reached superstar status yet, his versatility and promising performances suggest that he could be a valuable asset for the Steelers, potentially addressing multiple needs within their offense.
