As the 2024 NFL free agency period approaches, numerous prominent players are set to hit the open market when all 32 teams commence contract negotiations on March 11. On Monday, 37 veterans, including notable starters like Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Mike Evans, will officially see their contracts voided, paving the way for their entry into free agency. ESPN reports that Vikings linebacker Marcus Davenport had the void date on his contract renegotiated to March 11.
Essentially, all 38 players were already destined to become free agents due to the presence of “dummy years” in their existing contracts. However, these fabricated years technically expire at 4 p.m. ET on Monday. Teams have a strong incentive to negotiate new deals with these players before the deadline, as doing so allows them to defer potential salary-cap charges for the 2024 season to future years. Post-deadline, negotiations can still occur, but any resulting agreement will be classified as a new contract rather than an extension.
Below is the comprehensive list of players whose contracts will void on Monday, making them 2024 free agents as of March 11, according to Over the Cap:
- Atlanta Falcons: RB Cordarrelle Patterson
- Baltimore Ravens: RB Gus Edwards, WR Nelson Agholor (re-signed), OG Kevin Zeitler, CB Rock Ya-Sin, S Geno Stone
