In preparation for the upcoming fall season, the newly expanded ACC has officially released its 17-team football schedule for 2024. The league, featuring newcomers Cal, Stanford, and SMU, announced its scheduling model through the 2030 season, with the official dates for the 2024 season unveiled on Wednesday.
Providing fans with an immediate glimpse of the new ACC dynamics, Stanford is set to kick off ACC play at Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 20, covering a distance of about 2,800 miles. Following suit, Cal will engage in ACC action at Florida State the next day, spanning approximately 2,600 miles. SMU will then host Florida State in its inaugural conference game the following weekend.
The season opener between Florida State and Georgia Tech in Ireland on Aug. 24 will set the stage for an exciting season. The ACC teams will play eight conference games without divisions, ensuring that each team faces every other school at least twice over the next seven seasons. Teams not based in California will make three trips to California during this period, but not consecutively. The ACC has established 16 protected rivalries, including matchups like Stanford-Cal, Stanford-SMU, and Cal-SMU.
ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips commented on the significance of the 2024 ACC football schedule, emphasizing the excitement surrounding the addition of Cal, SMU, and Stanford. He highlighted the league’s commitment to creating an exhilarating, fair, and balanced schedule, prioritizing the student-athlete experience. The schedule promises first-time matchups, meaningful rivalries, and a formidable collection of non-conference opponents, ensuring an engrossing ACC football season.
